4-Day Egypt family tour

Cairo, White Desert, Alexandria

Description

4-Day Egypt family tour

Plan a lively 4-day trip made for the whole family. You will see Egypt’s landmarks and learn a bit about its past. Start in Cairo with its famous sites, then move to the White Desert for strange, pale rock scenes. Finish with a coastal stop in Alexandria, where the sea scenery feels different from the desert.

Day 1 and Day 2: Cairo sites and old history. You will visit the Pyramids of Giza and walk around the area. You will also go to the Salah El-Din Citadel. From there, the views over Cairo are wide and clear.

Day 3: White Desert safari. This is not a normal route. You travel into Egypt’s Western Desert and look at chalk shapes shaped by wind. The colors are light, and the forms look almost unreal as the light changes.

Day 4: Alexandria by the sea. Head to Egypt’s second big city. You can see Greco Roman remains and enjoy coastal scenes. After that, you will have time for the Mediterranean beaches and the slower pace near the water.

Itinerary

Day 1:
Giza pyramids, Egyptian Museum and Old Cairo

Our day starts in Giza. You will stand near the Giza pyramids, which are over 4,500 years old. You will also see the Great Sphinx. It has the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh. Our Egyptologist will talk you through how these structures were made long ago.

Next, we head to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. It is one of Egypt’s top museums. It holds many items tied to ancient Egyptian life. You will get to see rare pieces linked to pharaohs and their families. Among them are objects from King Tutankhamun, along with the rooms linked to mummified animals. The museum also has more than 100,000 artifacts from other cultures. These objects show how ancient Egyptian civilization changed over thousands of years.

After the museum, we stop for lunch in Cairo. We will eat at a real Egyptian restaurant.

Later, we move through Old Cairo and focus on the Islamic area. Our first visit is the Saladin Citadel. You can walk around and visit the Mohamed Ali Mosque. You will also look over the fortifications from the grounds. From this place, you can view much of the old city at a wide angle.

Then we go to Coptic Cairo. This is the Christian quarter of the city. There you can visit the Ben Ezra Synagogue. You can also see the Hanging Church. In addition, you can visit the Church of St. Sergius, also known as the Church of the Cave. Tradition says the Holy Family hid there when they left for Egypt.

At the end of the day, after exploring the historic sights around Cairo and Giza, we drive you back to your accommodation.

Day 2:
Baharia Oasis & White desert

You leave your Cairo lodging at 7:00 AM for this day tour. After you leave the city, the trip heads into the desert areas nearby. Your first stop is the Bahariya Oasis. It is known for its lovely setting and wide views.

After you arrive, you switch from the minibus to a jeep. Then you drive into the Western Desert. Expect a trip that feels different from the usual desert drive. With your guide, you walk through the oasis and see palm shade and natural springs.

After lunch, you keep going on to the White Desert. On the way, you pause at Agabat, a valley with tall white cliff faces. You will also see yellow limestone cliffs there. You can ride in a Jeep 4x4 and try sandboarding on the dunes. Climb a few dunes so you can look out over the distance.

Next, you travel deeper into the desert to the volcanic hills. They look like cones rising out of the land. Your route includes Al-Marsous, the volcanic summit covered in black basalt. We will stop at a viewpoint so you can take in the full scene of the oasis.

For the final part, you visit Egypt’s Crystal Mountain. This area is covered with a black basalt layer. The crystal bits catch the light and create a strange, quiet mood. You may look around, but do not take any minerals.

The tour ends at about 10:00 PM. Your guide and driver bring you back to your hotel in Cairo.

Day 3:
Alexandria Attractions

You will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby at about 6:30 A.M. for a day trip to Alexandria. We will leave Cairo and head to Alexandria, Egypt’s major Mediterranean city.

First, you will visit Qaitbey Citadel. This stone fort was built in the 1400s and it sits by the port. The lighthouse from earlier times once stood here, and you can still spot parts of it.

Next, we will go to the Kom el Shoqafa catacombs. These catacombs are a large Roman burial site. They have three levels carved into rock. The place dates back to the first century. Inside, you can see over 300 mummies and many Greco Roman details.

For lunch, you will eat at a seafood place. You can try some well known Egyptian dishes.

After lunch, you will have time to rest. Then we will visit Pompey’s Pillar and the ruins of the Serapeum. The Pompey Column is still there. Some historians say the Roman leader died in battle and was laid to rest in this area.

At the end of the day, we will take you to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It is one of the key cultural sites in the eastern Mediterranean. Late in the afternoon, we will return you to your hotel in Cairo.

Day 4:
Final departure

Your tour guide will be waiting in the hotel lobby at the agreed time on the last day. You will then be taken back to Cairo airport. After that, you can head home with fresh experiences, beautiful pictures, and lasting memories.
