9-Day Cairo and Siwa Oasis Easter Tour

When you arrive at Cairo International Airport, a tour leader will meet you at the exit. You will then be taken to your hotel. Take some time to rest and complete your check-in.

Welcome drink

After having breakfast at the hotel our tour guide will be waiting in the hotel lobby to take you on a Cairo day tour. The tour begins with a visit to the Giza Pyramids, which will leave you in awe because of their size. These massive structures were built during the Old Kingdom of Egypt by the most powerful kings and rulers of that time.

You will first see the Great Pyramid of Cheops. This pyramid was built by a king who was inspired by his father’s efforts to build burial tombs. His father, King Snefru founded the dynasty and built two major pyramids at Dahshur. Next you will head to the plateau to enjoy a breathtaking view of the three pyramids. You will see the pyramids of Chephren, who was the son of Cheops and the successor of King Djedefre. His pyramid is slightly smaller than his father’s standing at a height of 136 meters. Then you will see the pyramid of Mycerinus, the smallest of the three pyramids in Giza.

You can also take a camel ride on the Giza Pyramids plateau if you like. (This is an activity.)

After that you will see the Great Sphinx in Giza. It is a statue of a man’s head on a lion’s body. Is believed to have been built in honor of King Chephren. You will then enter the Valley Temple, where the mummification process of the king took place as part of the burial rituals.

Next we head to Saqqara. The tour of Saqqara is a way to see the Step Pyramid, which was the first pyramid ever built entirely out of stone. It was built by King Djoser, the king of the third dynasty. The pyramid is located in the Saqqara Necropolis, which marks a step in how pyramids evolved in Egypt. You will also enter one of the pyramids at the site—the pyramid of King Teti from the dynasty. You will also visit the tomb of a noble the tomb of Kagemni. He was the vizier of Justice during the reign of King Teti. Was the son-in-law of the king.

Now we continue our tour of Cairo with a visit to the city of Memphis. There you will see the open-air museum, which features an alabaster sphinx and a huge statue of King Ramses II. King Ramses II ruled Egypt during the New Kingdom era.

You will then enjoy a lunch at a top restaurant with a view of the pyramids and the Sphinx. After lunch you will be transferred back, to your hotel.

After lunch, your guide will meet you and start the day’s plan. First, you will visit the Grand Egyptian Museum. There, you can view one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the world. Your time there is about 2 hours.

When the museum stop ends, you will head to Coptic Cairo. This area is known for its Christian history. You will see the Hanging Church of the Holy Virgin Mary. The church was built on two towers that belong to the old Roman fortress of Babylon. You will also visit the Church of St. Sergius and the Synagogue of Ben Ezra.

Before you continue, you will enjoy your lunch at a solid quality restaurant. After that, you will move to Islamic Cairo near Khan El Khalili. You will join walking tours there and get a closer look at daily life in Cairo.

Once the Cairo City Tour is complete, you will be taken back to the hotel for the night.

Eat your breakfast at the hotel first. Then get ready to meet your Egyptologist, who speaks English well. After that, you will start a day trip from Cairo to Alexandria as part of our Egypt Easter Tours.

You will ride in an air-conditioned car to Alexandria. The drive takes about 2.5 hours. We also plan a short stop along the way for a break.

When you arrive, begin your visit in Alexandria. The city was founded in 332 B.C by Alexander the Great, who had Macedonian roots. Your first stop will be Pompey’s Pillar.

Next, you will be taken to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa. Afterward, you will travel by the sea road toward the Citadel of Qaitbay. This citadel stands on the old base of the Pharos Lighthouse in Alexandria. It was once known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Later, you will visit the Bibliotheca of Alexandria. This library is a restoration of the earlier library. The original library is gone now. Ptolemy I built the first one in the third century B.C. It was meant to be a hub for science and learning.

For the day, have a seafood lunch at a top restaurant near the harbor. After lunch, you will be moved back to your hotel in Alexandria. You will check in and stay overnight.

After breakfast, your guide will meet you and lead the trip to Siwa Oasis. The drive takes about 7 hours. On the way, we stop in the Alamein area. Here you can join the El Alamein tour. We start at the Military Museum. Then we visit the Commonwealth Alamein Cemetery from World War II. You will look at the display models and learn about the main battle that happened in Alamein during the war.

Next, we head to the lovely town of Marsa Matrouh for lunch at a good local restaurant. After lunch, we continue toward Siwa Oasis. When you arrive, you keep your bags at the eco-lodge. Then you go to one of the nicest natural hot springs in Egypt. You can bathe there to relax your body after the long drive. After that, we return to the hotel for the night.

Have breakfast at the Eco-lodge. After that, begin your Siwa Oasis tours.

First, visit the ruins of the Shali Fortress. This place shows how people of ancient Siwa hid during the threat of outside raids.

Next, you will be taken to Aghurmi Village to see the Temple of The Oracle. The temple dates back to the 26th dynasty.

Then, stop at the temple linked to the worship of God Amun Ra. This site is known as the Temple of Um Ubeyda.

Afterward, you will learn more about Siwan heritage at the Siwa House Museum. Lunch will follow at a lovely restaurant in the Oasis.

In the afternoon, relax at Cleopatra Spring. It is one of the best known hot water springs in Siwa Oasis. People believe it was used by the last pharaoh, Queen Cleopatra. Swim and sit in the warm, shining water.

Later, you will be moved to Fitnas Island. Enjoy the sunset view there.

We are not done yet. Today we will keep our trip through the Siwa Oasis Desert Safari. Our guide will be with you. An Egyptologist will join as you ride in a 4x4 vehicle across the Great Sand Sea.

First, we head out on the Egypt desert safari. We visit the Mountain of the Dead. You will see many tombs of the rulers of the oasis. Then you move to the wide sand dunes. Along the way, you reach fossils from the Cambrian era. You can look at old corals. Next, you go to a special spot inside the Great Sand Sea. It is a lake in the desert. If you are lucky, you may spot flamingos in the cool water. They swim while the desert stays calm. You can feel the quiet and enjoy a slow, relaxed moment there.

We pass Dakrour Mountain on the way. Then we try sandboarding. You slide down sand dunes instead of snow. After that, it is time to wash and rest. We go to the hot spring known as Bir Wahid. It helps you unwind and ease your muscles. Later, you watch the sunset again in the middle of the dunes. We finish the Great Sand Sea tour with Bedouin tea.

You stay overnight in Siwa. After the trip, you are taken back to the eco-lodge.

In the early morning, you eat breakfast in a box. Then you leave Siwa Oasis and travel back to Cairo. The route goes through Marsa Matrouh.  

When you reach Cairo, you go to the hotel and stay there overnight.  

If everything goes well and we return earlier than planned, you may get to arrange an activity in Cairo at night. One option is a Nile cruise dinner. During the cruise, there is an entertainment belly dance and a Tanoura dance show. The show happens on a sailing boat on the Nile River.
