First stop: Giza Pyramids Complex is known as a golden land. It holds major archaeological sites. Many date back to about 2600 BC. That was the era of the 4th dynasty. It is also the time when the stairway shaped idea became part of the story.

Next, see the Great Pyramid of Khufu. The Great Pyramid was built as a lasting royal tomb. Today, it is the only surviving wonder of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World.

It was ordered by King Khufu, who chose his architect Hemiunu to plan this monumental resting place.

The pyramid originally reached about 146.6 meters (481 feet) in height and was built using millions of limestone blocks. Inside, you can find the King’s Chamber, which is built from large blocks of granite.

After lunch, you will head to the Egyptian Museum is a major archaeological site downtown. In 1901, it became known for showing famous objects from ancient Egypt. First, go to the High Dam, this major project was made from the mid 1960s to the 1970s. It helped Egypt by holding back the yearly flood water in Lake Nasser. It also made power for the country.

Next, visit the Unfinished Obelisk, this site is a rare piece of ancient work. It was shaped under Queen Hatshepsut, around 1508 to 1458 BC. It was meant to stand at the entrance to the Karnak temple area. Even now, you can see how carving was done and what the stone workers knew.

Then, head to Philae Temple. Here you can find scenes tied to the story of Osiris. The temple walls are covered with old carvings that many travelers remember. It began in about 380 to 362 BC. Later, it became an important place for worship of Isis. That period ran from about 282 to 145 BC. Today the temple stands on Agilkia Island.

Kom Ombo Temple is a unique temple divided into two sections. It was built during the Ptolemaic period, between 180 BC and 47 BC. The temple is dedicated to Haroeris, also known as Horus the Elder, as well as Sobek, the crocodile god associated with the Nile.

Next, your cruise heads to Edfu Temple, built during the Ptolemaic era, between about 237 BC and 57 BC. It was dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed sky god. The temple is also connected with the ancient Egyptian myth of the battle between Horus and Seth.

After the visit, continue sailing toward Luxor. You will arrive after dark and spend the night onboard the cruise. Lunch and dinner are served on the ship.

Valley of the Kings, this site is one of the best-known archaeological areas of ancient Thebes. You will visit the royal burial ground, which contains 63 known tombs built for pharaohs and other members of the royal elite. Some of the famous names associated with the area include Hatshepsut, Seti I, and Tutankhamun. Most of the tombs date to the New Kingdom period, from about 1550 to 1070 BC, covering the 18th, 19th, and 20th Dynasties. The Valley also offers an opportunity to learn more about ancient Egyptian burial traditions and tomb decoration.

Next, you will visit the Colossi of Memnon. These two massive statues date back to around 1350 BC and were built for Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Each statue depicts the seated king and stands about 18 meters (60 feet) high. The statues have been repaired and restored several times. In antiquity, one of the statues was associated with sounds heard around sunrise, a phenomenon that became part of its later history.

At the Karnak Temple Complex, the precinct dedicated to Amun is one of the most important parts of the site. Construction and development took place over many centuries, beginning in the Middle Kingdom and continuing through the Ptolemaic period. The complex was an important center of religious life and was closely connected with the Theban Triad of Amun, Mut and Khonsu. You will also see references to other ancient Egyptian gods, including Isis, Hathor and Ptah.
