Meet your accredited tour guide, who will be with you during one of those best day trips to Cairo. This exciting day trip, to Memphis and Dahshur, will really pull you in with the magnificence of the oldest pyramids in Egypt. They’re even older than the famous landmarks of the three Great Pyramids in Giza, which people usually see during the tour to the pyramids of Giza.
First, you will head to the old royal necropolis of Dahshur. There, you can view two, out of the four pyramids, built for King Snefru. Snefru was the father of King Cheops, and in a way his true role model too, no doubt. You’ll notice the curved pyramid at Dahshur, it bent slightly because of uncoordinated angles, and then there’s the first perfectly shaped pyramid, the one called the red pyramid, because it has that reddish tone from the stones used for its construction.
Take a moment to step inside the pyramids at Dahshur, snap a few photos, and then continue toward Egypt’s oldest capital, from the 1 Dynasty, around 5000 years ago: Memphis. Not much of the old city is still standing, but now you can view artifacts on display in the open air museum. Most interesting, in my opinion, is the alabaster sphinx. It is the second-largest sphinx within the pyramid complex of King Chephren, right after the famous Great Sphinx of Giza. You’ll also see statues of King Ramses II, who ruled the country during the New Kingdom. His colossal statue looks almost unmatched, with a kind of perfection, and it clearly shows how skilled the craftsmen were, especially their deep anatomical knowledge, because the body muscles are shaped so precisely.
After you finish your Dahshur and Memphis Cairo tour, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel, or to your preferred drop-off location.
