The place has open air and wide views over Cairo. Today, it is kept as a historic spot with mosques and museums. One of them is the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha.

The mosque was made by the Turkish architect Yousif Boushnaq. He came to Cairo from Istanbul to work on it. The alabaster of the mosque looks striking against the sandstone of the city.

Day 6:
Aswan

Aswan visits, with a stop at the Temple of Philae, then a Felucca trip around Elephantine. You will also see the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk.

Philae temple
This temple was made for the goddess Isis. It is known as the last major temple built in the old Egyptian style. Work started about 690 BC. It became one of the final places where Isis was still honored.

High Dam
The High Dam sits at the north edge of Egypt, near the border with Sudan. It is a rock fill dam. Water comes from the River Nile, and the dam created Lake Nasser. Plans began in 1960. The main works finished in 1968. The opening took place in 1971.

Unfinished obelisk
Aswan supplied granite that ancient Egypt prized. That stone was used for statues and for decoration on temples, pyramids, and obelisks. The quarry has a large obelisk that was never finished. It helps explain how these monuments were made, but many parts of the method are still not fully understood. The shaft is about 42 m long. Three sides were shaped, but the inscriptions were left out. If it had been finished, it would have weighed 1168 tonnes, making it the heaviest stone piece the Egyptians are thought to have created.

12:00 lunch.
Overnight in Basma Hotel.

Day 7:
Abu simble

Early trip to Abu Simbel from Aswan

Abu Simbel temples

Two temples were cut into the mountain on the west side of the Nile. They were made for Ramses the second and Queen Nefertari. The work was done between 1274 and 1244 B.C.
The Great Temple honors Ramses the second, Ra-Harakhty, Amun Ra, and Ptah. It has four huge statues.
The other temple honors Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.

Both temples were taken apart stone by stone. Then they were rebuilt on higher ground. The work to save the temples is often seen as the top achievement connected to Unesco.

Valley of the Kings
People once called this place the Valley of the Truth. Later, it became known as the Valley of the Kings. It is a grand area where pharaohs were laid to rest. They were placed in big stone sarcophagi, waiting for life after death. The valley sits alone behind Deir el Bahri. A tall mountain peak rises above it. The peak has a pyramid-like shape.

Colossi of Memnon
You can see two huge statue figures. They are the Colossi of Memnon. They stand about 18 meters above the plain. These statues are all that remains of an older site. Long ago, it was the biggest complex on the west bank. Amenhotep the Third built that complex.

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
The temple rises from the desert plain. It spreads in a set of terraces. The structure fits against steep limestone cliffs on the east side of the Theban hills. It looks as if the landscape helped make the monument.
Overnight in Luxor at Nile Palace Luxor

Day 10:
Karnak temple

After breakfast, you will go out.

Karnak Temple
Karnak is not just one temple. It is a huge site with sanctuaries, kiosks, pylons, and obelisks. The whole place was made for the Theban gods. It also honored the pharaohs of Egypt. Karnak was the main spot for worship of the Theban Triad. That group is Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.

Luxor Temple
Next, you will visit Luxor Temple. Much of it was built during the New Kingdom. Pharaoh Amenhotep the Third played a big role. It was later finished by Tutankhamon.
