Itinerary

Day 1:
Explore Ancient Fayoum on an Exciting Overnight Budget Tour from Cairo!

Early in the morning, your Egypt Tailor Made tour guide will kinda sort of pick you up from your Cairo hotel, in an air-conditioned car, and drive you “approximately 95km” to the Fayoum oasis. The ancient Egyptians apparently regarded the place as a kind of cult of devotion for the crocodile god Sobek. There are something like 200 of those huge waterwheels, scattered all over the oasis. You’ll spot the Great Seven Waterwheels, one of the Fayoum oasis icons, once you arrive, so don’t worry.

Next, you will see “Qaron’s Lake,” and it’s also believed to be the oldest natural lake in the world. It’s, well, the largest saltwater lake in Egypt. Around the lake, and across the nearby region, you’ll find different fruits and vegetables, plus a spectacular panorama of winter migrant birds. After a hot day of sightseeing, this is a great spot to calm down and just unwind. Then, we’ll stop for a picnic lunch.

Later, you’ll be traveling to “Wadi al-Rayan,” which was designated a Protected Area back in 1989. After that, the whole day becomes this relaxing adventure excursion thing. The lakes there are really, really nice for swimming, jumping off, or simply enjoying that breathtaking natural scenery.

Afterward, we’ll transfer you back to your Fayoum hotel. You will spend the night there.

Day 2:
Explore Ancient Fayoum on an Exciting Overnight Budget Tour from Cairo!

After breakfast  in the morning, you will travel to the "Wadi Hitan" Valley of Whales. Because of the huge number of fossils preserved there, dating back to some of the earliest whale kinds, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2005. You can discover fossils as old as 200 million years, to a moment when the desert was basically submerged under water. The skeletons and the bones of whales, along with sea cows, are the most easy to spot fossils. Whale fossils range from single bones to full skeletons, and even a few partial skeletons are now shown in the park’s public section.

After finishing this lovely trip, you will move just a few hundred meters south, from Wadi El Rayyan Road, to Mudawara Mountain for a visit.

It is more of a rock formation than a true mountain , but it still has a charming layered look with a kind of symmetry that grabs your attention. After that, you will be guided to Karanis, a Ptolemaic-era ruin of an ancient city. In that city, many monuments from the Roman, Coptic, and Early Islamic periods may be found then we will transfer you back to the Cairo hotel.
