Begin your half day tour of the pyramids in Cairo. A driver will pick you up from your hotel in a private air conditioned car. After that, you will meet your own Egyptologist guide. Together you will see Ancient Egyptian civilization at one of the seven wonders of the world.
Giza Pyramids area
At Giza you will visit a famous group of monuments. This includes the Great Pyramids and the smaller pyramids. You will also see the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple. These works belong to the Old Kingdom period, from 2686 to 2134 BC.
The Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid is linked to King Khufu, dated 2609 BC to 2584 BC. It was made as his final resting place and as a link to the sky. The plan is credited to Hemiunu, the vizier. The height is about 147 meters. It used about 2.3 million limestone blocks. Inside you may find spaces like the King’s chamber and the Grand Gallery. There is also the Queen’s chamber. Other areas are less known.
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx is often seen as a steady guardian. It stayed in place for over 4500 years. The body is a lion. The face is said to show King Khafre, who ruled from 2558 BC to 2532 BC.
The Valley Temple
The Valley Temple is an important temple site. It is described as dating to around 2700 BC. It was built to help the royal mummies from the Old Kingdom endure for many centuries.
