Giza Pyramids Area
The Giza pyramids area still feels timeless. It dates back to the early Old Kingdom, around 2686 to 2134 BC. The site includes the divine trio of pyramids at Giza. You can also see six smaller pyramids. There is the Great Sphinx too. The Valley Temple is part of the same complex.
The Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid of King Khufu was built around 2600 BC. Workers used about 2.3 million limestone blocks. In total, these blocks add up to about six million tons. The pyramid rises to about 147 meters. Inside, there are hidden spaces. One example is the King’s Chamber.
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx is a famous landmark tied to ancient stories. It is often linked to King Khafre. Many accounts place it around 2500 BC. The sphinx was carved from one large piece of limestone. Its face is shaped like Khafre’s. The body is made in the form of a strong lion.
The Valley Temple
The Valley Temple was created between 2700 BC and 2600 BC. It was used to help with royal rites. The aim was to turn members of the 4th dynasty into immortal mummies. The belief was that they would find their path to the heavens.
