There’s an older , slower kind of travel down the Nile, but in a prettier way too. Before motor cruisers , before any schedules, before crowds— there were dahabiyas. Those traditional wooden sailing vessels hauled 19th century explorers and aristocrats up the river under full canvas, stopping wherever the wind decided, or where curiosity tugged. The Nuun and Nuut, are basically that whole feeling, rebuilt for today.
Operated by Ashranda, the twin sister dahabiyas, Nuun and Nuut are among the most luxurious traditional sailing vessels on the Nile. Each one takes up to 12 guests , across 6 cabins, plus 2 private-terrace suites. It’s a small scale setup, so by Day 1 the crew already knows your name, and it’s calm enough that at night you can hear the water moving under the hull. Their routes go past places no motor cruise ship really bothers with sandstone quarry temples, island anchorages, and long river stretches where all you see along the banks is sugar cane, plus silence.

When you arrive in Luxor for your Nuut or Nuun Dahabiya Nile cruise package, we will be at the airport to meet and assist you. You will then be taken to see the ruins of the massive Karnak Temple complex. From here, your guide and driver will take you to the West Bank to visit the Valley of Kings. More than 60 tombs have been uncovered here, including King Tut’s tomb.
Your sightseeing tour will end shortly before midday, at which point you will be taken to board your 5-Star Nuut or Nuun Nile cruise. Shortly after boarding, your Dahabiya will set sail for Esna with lunch being served along the way. Rather than sailing all the way to Esna, you will stop a short distance away from the Esna Lock and the Dahabiya will drop anchor near El Hegz Island. Enjoy the first night of your Nuut or Nuun Dahabiya Nile cruise on the water near the island.

Enjoy your breakfast while your Dahabiya is sailing to the city of El Kab. On arrival, your guide will take you ashore to see some ancient wall of an unknown city. Next, you will visit the ruins of an ancient temple and some rock-cut tombs dating back to the New Kingdom era. After your tour, you will return to your Dahabiya and it will set sail for Edfu.
Enjoy lunch on the river while sailing. When you reach Edfu there will be a horse-drawn carriage waiting to take you for a ride through the busy and bustling village to see the Temple of Horus. This is the most well-preserved ancient temple in Egypt. After you get back to your Dahabiya, it will set sail for Sheikh Rehan Island. Just before the sun sets, your Dahabiya will drop anchor and you will spend this night of your Nuut or Nuun Dahabiya Nile cruise near the island.

This is the day the Nile does the work. After breakfast, you enter the Esna Lock — a working river lock that raises and lowers vessels between different water levels and is one of the most unexpectedly captivating things to experience from the deck of a dahabiya. The afternoon sail into Luxor is unhurried, the West Bank cliffs appearing on the horizon as the city announces itself ahead.

The Esna Lock channels the entire flow of vessel traffic through a single gated passage — watching your dahabiya rise or fall between the lock walls, with the ancient temple of Esna visible just beyond the embankment, is one of those moments that feels genuinely cinematic. The afternoon sail from Esna to Luxor passes through the most densely farmed stretch of the Nile valley, where the fields run right to the water's edge and the West Bank cliffs glow amber as the sun moves west.
